Stories as random as rocks… in space.
The Oort Cloud is a collection of short stories, flash fiction, and narrative experiments — speculative, surreal, and occasionally quite silly — all written by me, a screenwriter, improviser, and former creative director who should probably be doing something more sensible by now.
The stories here don’t follow a single theme, but they do have a consistent orbit: they’re built around heart, humour, and the messy wonder of being human. Some are melancholic, some are absurd, and some are trying really hard not to be sci-fi.
I have an MA in Screenwriting from Bath Spa University (with a Distinction, oh yeah, Mum, aren’t you proud now), and one of my scripts reached #5 on the [Coverfly] Red List — though I’ve since escaped the competition circuit in favour of writing what I love. I’ve spent 20 years leading an award-winning creative agency, where storytelling had to be sharp, strategic, and fast. I also perform improv regularly — because nothing teaches you more about character, stakes, and story than jumping on stage with no idea what’s coming next.
If you like your fiction weird but grounded, poetic but punchy, funny but probably not commercial — this might just be your kind of place.
